A Mask Which Can Destroy Covid-19

Livinguard is a hygiene technology company with a laser focus of reinventing hygiene in the 21st century by bringing our technology to where it is most needed.
The Swiss company, announced on May 8, 2020 that its technology for disinfecting textiles has been shown, through scientific testing, to destroy Human coronavirus 229e. The new research revealed that textiles treated with Livinguard’s breakthrough technology can destroy pathogens of all kinds upon contact, including Human coronavirus 229e.

The Livinguard mask can be washed up to 30 times with undiminished efficacy of its protective properties. If used daily and washed weekly under normal usage conditions, the mask can be used for 6 months, effectively replacing the need for 210 single-use masks. The mask can be used for extended periods and reused before washing because the fabric covering the filter media continuously destroys microorganisms upon contact. This significantly diminishes the risk of them transferring to you and to other surfaces. The mask is certified to be non-toxic and safe for use.
The tests have recently been completed at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Department of Environmental Studies, under the supervision of Charles Gerba, PhD. It have shown that over 99% of Human corona virus 229e that comes into contact with Livinguard treated textiles are destroyed. The Livinguard mask is a multi-barrier mask composed of three separate filtration layers. When used in combination, the Livinguard multi-barrier mask provides protection of over 99.99%
Livinguard face masks are not yet available for sale in the US. COmpany is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the results of the testing. They are confident that the FDA will find the results reliable and agree that the technology’s application to masks and textiles will be beneficial, especially during this global pandemic.
The Livinguard masks are available throughout the world with current manufacturing in India, Portugal, Israel, Sri Lanka, Jordan, UAE, and China. In the U.S., Livinguard treated masks are expected to be available in the next few weeks. ReadyOne, a manufacturer of battle dress for the U.S. Military out of El Paso Texas, will manufacture Livinguard certified masks.
How safe is it to use a Livinguard face mask?
Nelson Labs has reviewed our documentation and has preliminary concluded it should be safe for use during the crisis, and that Nelson Labs will be conducting additional testing to confirm its conclusions.
Livinguard has passed extensive skin safety testing at Product Safety Labs in USA per US EPA requirements and at Hohenstein Institute in Germany per European standards.

How it works
The mask has 3 layers that offer a 5 level of protection. The 3 layers work in continuous combination, protecting both the wearer and others.

Outer layer
The unique patented Tripellent Technology on the Outer layer offers 3 levels of protection:

- Antiviral and repellent coating on the outside of the fabric
- Antiviral Technology bonded into the fabric itself
- Antiviral and repellent coating on the inside of the fabric
Middle layer
Non-woven industry-standard filter channels viruses for destruction to the outer or inner layers. Sandwiched between disinfecting fabrics, it is protected from biological contamination, allowing the mask to be safely washed and reused.
Inner layer
The inner layer is denser than the outer layer and also treated with Livinguard Antiviral Technology, the fabric provides powerful inactivation of coronavirus. Quick-drying with low humidity, the soft and stretchy fabric gives a comfortable fit for the mouth and nose. This specially treated fabric has 36 billion positive charges / cm2.
The Failsafe Protection
2 levels of Livinguard Technology across the outer and inner layers are each capable of delivering >99% inactivation of Human Coronavirus 229E for a combined effect of >99.99%. Another 2 levels of Livinguard Technology are still under testing for the same. This is in addition to the middle layer of industry-standard filtration.
The Actual Science Behind The Technology
The principle underlying our technologies is the ability of polycationic surfaces to inactivate microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, and several types of fungi, and to do so without leaching.
This principle has been described in scientific literature for two decades, but its understanding and practical applications have been limited. Livinguard has leveraged this principle to invent and patent a paradigm shift from conventional approaches:
- Range of methods to bind a range of cationic compounds to textiles and other surfaces
- Portfolio of optimized chemistries to inactivate bacteria and viruses, without using traditional metal-based antimicrobial agents like silver, copper, zinc, etc.
- Methods to combine these with other properties, such as water repellency, hydrophilicity, etc.
According to the scientific literature, it is probable that the inactivation mechanism of viruses is based on the distortion of the protein capsid by adsorption of negatively charged proteins to the positively charged surface, finally leading to the release of non-infectious RNA.
Tests have shown that after multiple rinses or washes, the treated material (specifically textiles as tested so far) maintains its properties without leaching. This lack of leaching is the underlying reason why the antimicrobial performance is so durable as well as why it is safe for skin contact.
Mask Durability and Maintenence?
- Face masks using the Livinguard technology are washable and reusable.
- Each mask can be used up to 210 times, with no compromise on efficacy
- It can be washed up to 30 times
- Hand wash once a week or as needed in cold water for about 2 minute
- Line dry in shade for 6 – 8 hours depending on humidity
- Do not use detergent or bleach
- If stained, use a mild soap to rinse
- Do not wring
- Do not dry clean
